Potterymarketto is run by a small family team living in Japan We have a love for eating, drinking, and cooking. Honestly, I just love tableware a lot. My mother always loved tableware as well, so it looks like I inherited her passion for it. I still remember her saying things like “This is your Grandma's!” when she'd dish out our dinner on a certain familiar plate. It made me happy and warmed my heart to recall my beloved grandma's memories. It definitely added joy to our dinner table as well. These experiences from childhood inspired my dream of having my own tableware shop.

Periods of quarantine during the Covid epidemic also played a factor in this creation. Like many, we cooked and ate homemade food at every meal during this time. Gradually, we got tired of the same routine and same surroundings. Again, the vision of lovely tableware offered a break from this monotony. We reaffirmed that these pieces were works of art; items of vibrant expression in an ordinary setting. They were both expressions of beauty and functional tools in our every day lives that elevate the experience of meal time. They made our home cozy and interesting and allowed us to enjoy our love of food even more. Since then, owning a store to deliver stunning tableware has become a driving force in my life; and here we are

Lovely tableware also makes the task of cooking more enjoyable. It can add a flare to a home cook’s meals or even just uplift the look of your take-out order! Thus, our items are meant for everyone. Whether you are a home chef or someone who relies on quick ready meals and take-out, our wares can help make your kitchen a comfortable place to relax and enjoy.

There are so many types of tableware in Japan, from very traditional to modern styles, all made with varied materials and methods. When we see a piece that stands out to us, we grab it for you. Our hope is that you find pieces here that speak to your love of tableware, meal time and maybe Japan. If our item adds a bit of joy to your table, and makes you smile when you think of its craftsmanship and origin, our job has been done.
