A sweet small container with a lid: Futamono

This jar could be used for holding condiments or sauces to serve at your table!  We often put furikake or seasoned kelp in this cute container to serve with rice. It would also make a nice small jewelry box or candy dish.  Feel free to use this small treasure in any way you’d like!

Toshihiko Gama is a pottery studio located in Tamba: a nostalgic country town and one of the six oldest districts known for making pottery in Japan.  His studio, which is also his family’s home, stands quietly at the foot of a mountain set in a virgin landscape.  There’s about 60 pottery sites producing their own beautiful works in the region.  Although there has been a recent increase in the variety of colors, patterns, and designs, Tamba ware is known originally for it’s stunning glaze work which results from a more natural firing.  This gives the pieces a more rough beautiful touch with warm earthen textures.  Tamba ware is actually designated as a traditional handicraft of Japan. Toshihiko’s works definitely encompass all of these beautiful characteristics of Tamba ware.

We really urge you to hold this piece in your hands for yourself and feel the warmth his passion for Tamba pottery can bring!
