This cozy rice bowl is delicate in it's pattern, yet solid in it's shape, including a short wide base that makes it extra stable on your surfaces. The name of this particular bowl is “Kurawanka” which means “Would you like some?” in an Osaka dialect.

The double-lined check pattern is reminiscent of lattice and represents a traditional amulet.  It is said that the squares in the latice are used to watch out for monsters. If amulets seem a bit weird for a rice bowl, keep in mind that this is just a common traditional pattern from the Edo period in Japan. It is difficult to stop looking at this bowl because it's figure and design is so endearing!
